Comedy, what do you think when you hear that word? Do you think of laughing ? or do you think it's a waste of your time ? Well let me tell you, when watching a comedy movie you should be laughing and it's in no way a waste of time. There are so many different types of comedy movies that there's one for everyone!
Comic movies came out during the era of silent films(1895-1930), but some of the very first silent films were in fact comedies! In the 1920s the introduction of sound in films made the movies much more dramatic and made it possible to have verbal humour. Although there are many different types of comedy movies they all seem to follow some of the same guide lines. All comedy movies have a love affair or some other scandal along those lines. Generally these movies also have a happy ending, and well let's face the facts you can usually guess the ending 20-40 minutes into the movie. This happens because comedies follow the same plot almost so a lot of them are the same just shaken up a little bit. The plots of the movies are less important then what there witty dialogues are.
Although there are many, many, many types of comedy movies some of the main ones would have to be action, horror, fantasy, sci-fi and military. All these films have their own purpose and role to follow but overall they follow the same lines and try to find average life things and make them funny. Since the overall category is "comedy" these ones are called "hybrid genres" and in stores they aren't really sorted by the hybrid genres, just generally categorized as comedy. Which I believe is unfair because although they are all the same genre, they all truly have a different purpose for example in an action comedy they'll most likely be doing stupid stunts or making fun of a previously made action movie, and in a horror comedy it's suspenseful, creepy but still funny. They're similar but definitely not the same.
Now some styles of comedy, not to be mixed up with hybrid genres are "fish out of water", parody of spoof, anarchic, gross-out, and romantic are the ones that are used regularly. The fish out of the water style is generally when a character(s) find themselves in an odd environment or commonly they have switched genders. As for the parody of spoof is a film that mimics other film genres and generally classic films. Anarchic films commonly mock authority. Meanwhile "gross out" depend heavily on vulgar, sexual and/or "toilet" humour. Last but not least romantic, which regularly follow boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girls heart again sequence.
Some of the newer comedy movies that have been extremely successful and beyond loved by the public are Meet the parents, The Hang over and Juno. I believe these movies have become overly famous because they take the average day and take it to the extreme. They say and do everything that all of us want too but none of us have the guts to follow through with any of these things. These movies are all the typical happy ending comedy.
The movie Meet the parents was created in 2000. This movie has your average happy ending, but of course it has it's twist and turns throughout the movie! This movie is beyond filled with family comflict and trying to learn how to adjust to being married into a new family. This movies style is mainly romantic, because it's about a couple trying to over come all the differences through out the family and still be happily married by the end of the day. I do believe that in a way this movie is a fantasy comedy. I believe this because we all wish we could laugh about our complications like they do and move on with our day without getting torn apart by every little thing.
Juno was produced in 2007. This movie was overly famous because it shows all the ups and downs of dealing with teenage pregnancy. It doesn't make everything a fairy tale ending and make it seem like everythings easy to deal with. The movie does have a happy ending, but in some ways it doesn't. For example the adoptive parents end up splitting up, so clearly that isn't a happy ending but Juno still gives the baby to the mother because she sees that she's a proper mother so that is a happy ending! This movie in some ways is a fantasy comedy aswell, this is because in one way or another everyone wishes their family would accept their mistakes as calmy as Junos step mom and father did. Overall, this movie is amazing and isn't just your average snobby, rich, perfect cheerleading teen movie.
Last but not least is The Hang over which was created in 2010! This movie has been seen by so many people, more than once it's unbelieveable! This movie is an action comedy but it's beyond hilarious. It takes your normal night out with the guys story and makes it a thousand times funnier and extreme. Yes, of course somethings in this movie are predictable and over rated but there are also so many things that are so hilarious that you're mouth just drops and you can't help but to laugh your butt off! Somethings that happen in this movie you can't help but question how they even thought of doing something like that. Even though this movie is extremely dumb and pointless you can't help but to laugh at it. This movie is absolutely one of the most loved movies, and it's not just because all of us want to be apart of Alans wolf pack!

A lot of people hate on horror movies, romantic movies and every other type but most people can find atleast a couple comedy movies that they just simply fall inlove with. Comedies have been around longer then most movie genres and they will probably always exist now. Plain and simple, comedy movies are what makes a bad day just that much more bareable.
